BERC Outreach and Electricity Generation Rate Fixing Methodology

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission conducted a workshop
on Outreach of BERC activities and Electricity Generation Rate
fixing Methodology in Dhaka on 28th December 2005. The Workshop
was attended by representatives from all energy utilities in
Bangladesh. Dr. Mujibur Rahman Khan, Chairman BERC opened the
workshop with an address of welcome. Ms. Anne Williams, Director,
Office of Economic Growth, Food & Environment, USAID / Dhaka
in her remarks encouraged the participants to continue in such
dialogues for the development of a transparent and viable energy
sector. She informed the gathering that USAID was happy to be
of assistance in the development of a healthy energy sector
for Bangladesh. Mr. Shahidul Haque, Joint Secretary, Ministry
of Law & Parliamentary Affairs spoke on the Legal issues and
interpretation of the BERC Act. BERC Member Md. Mosharaff Hossain
deliberated on the activities of BERC. Mr. Jason Czyz, Deputy
Director, International Programs, NARUC spoke about Global Regulatory
Institutions and finally Member Md. Showkat Hossain elaborated
in detail the Methodology for Electricity Generation rate fixing.
After each presentation lively discussions ensued. A further
round table discussion on Electricity Rate Fixing Methodology
is contemplated within the next couple of months.
